One of the popular artists among the present generation of singers from Karnataka, Smt.Prameela Kundapur is the most versatile, imaginative and adventurous female vocalists.
She was born in 1950, in a small hamlet of Kundapura Taluk, called Khambadakone to a family with an artistic tradition. Though Prameela did not receive any formal training in singing she can now render light classical music in 5 Indian languages - Sanskrit, Hindi , Kannada, Konkani, and Marathi.
After her marriage in 1972 she moved to Udupi, the famous pilgrimage center of Dakshina Kannada, where her musical talents were honed to perfection by famous singers like Rajya Prasasthi Vijeta, Sri Ho.Na Raghavendra Rao and Sri Shantharam Baliga.
In addition to being a popular concert artist, Prameela has won recognition as a poetess/writer and composer. Her repertoire of Sanskrit shlokas has received acclaim in India and abroad.
Her singing abilities are phenomenal, she can render songs from devotional to folk for hours on end, with ease and dexterity. She brings out the true mood and essence of the song with her rich and resonant voice leaving the audience mesmerized. Her music reflects full range from beautiful to sublime.
She has won acclaim from serious music critics like Late Sri Savur Sumit of Mumbai. She has performed to packed houses in major cities of India like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Shimoga, Udupi, Kundapura, Mysore, Cochin. She has sung along with other famous singers of Karnataka like Sri Ho.Na.Raghavendra Rao, Sri Shantaram Baliga, Puttur Narasihmha Naik and Kum B.R. Chaya, in popular cassettes.
Prameela is a popular Konkani artiste on All India Radio, Mangalore Station, and she has also given often broadcasted program on Bangalore Doordarshan (TV)
Apart from singing with other famous Artists in audio cassettes, she has cut three of her own cassettes now available now in CD format.
In Feb 2007, Smt Prameelas programs were sponsored by Shree Venkateshwara Temple of Pittsburg,USA, Austin Hindu Temple, Austin, Tx, USA and also Kannada Sangha of Austin USA. :
